He may be fixated on vampires and the cozy isolation of the nightlife, but he does have his old friend Asai Akira to bring him back to the human world, and she can help him re-assimilate to school and mainstream Japanese society. If Ko fails this challenge, at least he has a backup option. Chunibyos are known for their dramatic flair, and Ko, who has actual dark powers on the line, is poised to totally live up to the chunibyo archetype. However, this could easily backfire on him, and given how he is almost a literal chunibyo, he's likely to get carried away. Ko might panic and try to rush things, and with Nazuna unwilling to help or hinder him, he might take drastic action to hurry and get what he wants. He wants more than ever to be a vampire, which ensures that this one-year time limit is highly relevant to him, and that fact may shape his behavior going forward. Episode 8 is a turning point, with the anime's leisurely pace being shattered by this sudden time limit, and Ko is feeling the pressure. The stakes of Call of the Night are suddenly much higher, and this might define the rest of the anime's narrative. However, whether he can expedite the romantic process is another question entirely, and Nazuna is not helping. The pressure's on, and Ko realizes he has no time to waste. Vampires, demons and other dark creatures often play humans for fools, and the same is true here in Call of the Night. Dark creatures like vampires never make things easy or simple, and it is usually humans who will suffer or pay the price. Ko thinks he can cheat the system by taking his time before truly falling in love with Nazuna, but not so fast. Nazuna had simply forgotten to explain that, but no matter how Ko learns the truth, this condition helps prove that these vampires are never easy to deal with. Ko never realized it, but he is operating on borrowed time, and the countdown has been running ever since Episode 1's events. Ko must become a vampire within one year of the first instance of Nazuna biting him, or Ko will never become a vampire at all. Even if they show Ko mercy and allow him to live with Nazuna, the vampire ladies add another brutal condition to Ko's life during their conversation in Episode 8. Unlike Nazuna, most vampires are ruthless, arrogant beings who treat human beings like snacks and living toys, meaning these bloodsuckers are more like Underworld-style vampires than cuddly ones like Nazuna. In Episode 7, Ko met an entire coven of vampires, all of whom are Nazuna's associates, and they make it clear that the goofy, video game-loving Nazuna is the exception to the vampire rule.
